IMMEDIATE LIFE SUPPORT FOR DENTAL PRACTICES
ADULT AND PAEDIATRIC

This course is designed in accordance with THE MEDICAL EMERGENCIES AND RESUSCITATION DOCUMENT from the Resuscitation Council UK 2006.

STANDARDS FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE AND TRAINING FOR DENTAL PRACTITIONERS AND DENTAL CARE PROFESSIONALS IN GENERAL DENTAL PRACTICE.

Maintaining the knowledge and competence to deal with medical emergencies is an important part of all dental professionals continuing professional development. Such emergency are rare but it is important to recognize that a medical emergency could happen at any time and that is important that the entire medical team know their specific role should this happen.

This course meets the educational criteria for 3 hours of verifiable Continuing Professional development under the General Dental Councils Life Long Learning Scheme.

The course will cover the following:

Medical risk assessment in dental practice.

Emergency drugs .

Medical emergency and resuscitation equipment.

ABCDE approach to assessment of the at risk or critically ill patient.

Common Medical emergencies ( asthma, anaphylaxis, epilepsy, cardiac, hypoglycemia, syncope).

Initial treatment.

Potential hazards.

Care of the unconscious patient.

Airway management .

Insertion of the laryngeal mask ( optional).

Oxygen administration (optional).

BLS Theory and practice ( adult and paediatric).

Automated Defibrillation Training Can also be incorporated on request
